EU signs agreement with Azerbaijan to maintain regular fuel supply

Baku: – The European Union has started moves to resolve the problems created because Russia stopped the fuel gas supply. On Monday, the European Union and Azerbaijan signed an MoU for fuel gas supply. Per this agreement, Azerbaijan will double the fuel gas supply to the European Union. A few days ago, even Kazakhstan assured to increase the fuel gas supply to Europe.

Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, visited Azerbaijan on Monday. She signed the agreement for fuel supplies following discussions with Ilham Aliyev, the President of Azerbaijan. As per the agreement, Azerbaijan will increase the fuel supplies to the European countries to 20 billion cubic feet in the next five years. Currently, Azerbaijan supplies 8 billion cubic feet of fuel gas to European countries.   

Furthermore, European Commission chief Leyen welcomed the agreement, saying that Azerbaijan is an important partner in the European Union’s process to avoid using Russian fuels. She also claimed that Azerbaijan is a trusted fuel partner. It has been revealed that the European Union and its member countries have also signed agreements with Qatar, Algeria and the United Arab Emirates to curtail the use of Russian fuels.
