China willing to recognise Taliban, claims US news agency

Washington/Doha – Twelve major countries, including the United States and China, have stated that they will not recognise the Taliban if they use military force to take over Afghanistan. But the US news agency has made a sensational claim that China, which has taken this role at the official level, is secretly preparing to recognise the Taliban. A few days ago, a Taliban delegation visited China and even then, there were indications that China would take a pro-Taliban stance.

China, Taliban, Afghanistan, USA meeting of the countries concerned was held in Doha, the capital of Qatar, on Thursday to discuss the situation in Afghanistan. At the meeting, the United Nations and the European Union, along with the United States, India, the UK, Germany, Norway, Qatar, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Turkey and China, unanimously stated that they would not recognise the Taliban‘s rule in Afghanistan. US State Department spokesman Ned Price released the information.

Although China officially took an anti-Taliban stance at the meeting, China is secretly preparing to recognise the Taliban regime. A report prepared by Chinese military and intelligence agencies suggests that the Taliban, who may overthrow President Ghani’s government in Afghanistan shortly, should be recognised by the Chinese communist regime. The US news agency revealed the information.

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi indicated this during a meeting with Taliban leaders in Tianjin last month.
