Beijing: – China has made a significant announcement that it will be expanding the Weather Modification Program. Under this program, artificial rain or snowfall will be created in 5.5 million square kilometres area in China. This experiment will be carried out on a region almost one and a half times the size of India. Therefore, it is clear that this Chinese Weather Modification Program is a threat not only to India but even to other adversaries of China. A thick possibility is being revealed that the announcement has been made only with the intention of issuing a warning to the adversaries of China.
This major announcement was made by the State Council of China this week. The State Council announced that China is taking the Weather Modification Program, being researched for more than a decade, to the next stage. China claimed that this program would be fully developed by the year 2025. In these five years, China will be creating artificial rain or snowfall over an area of 5.5 million square kilometres. At the same time, the State Council announced that artificial hailstorms would be created over 580,000 square kilometres area. This would increase agricultural production. China claims that this will help in dousing forest fires, as also flaring temperatures and draughts could be brought under control. A news report in the Chinese mouthpiece is cited for this purpose. China claims to have succeeded in reducing hailstorms by 70% in the Xinjiang province, in the last year, with this Weather Modification experiment.
China is carrying out various weather modification experiments for more than a decade. China had used Cloud Seeding to avoid natural rains and fog during the Beijing Olympic Games in 2008. China has been using Cloud Seeding for more than a decade. A few days ago, Chinese scientists even claimed to have developed a technique to produce artificial rain using satellites and rockets. A report had also been published that excess water vapour had been diverted from the Yangtze River to the famine-hit regions.
It is claimed that the Chinese Weather Modification technology is a direct threat for monsoon dependent, agriculture-based countries Like India. China has announced that the Weather Modification Program will be limited to the country. But China, known to use its economic and military might aggressively to further its foreign policies, cannot be trusted that it will never use this Weather Modification technology against India. Therefore, this sounds a warning bell for India.
Accusations have already been made that calamities like incessant rains, megafloods and earthquakes can be created in other countries using the Weather Modification technology. The conspiracy theorists say that this technology is used to teach a lesson to the countries going against the country. Therefore, the significance of Chinese claims increases further. Since the last few days, China is trying to pressurise India announcing to build a dam on the Brahmaputra river. Therefore, there is a dense possibility that the announcement regarding the Weather Modification could also be a part of the pressure tactics.
