China looking for an opportunity to attack Taiwan: CIA Chief William Burns -

Washington: CIA Chief William Burns warned about the certainty of China attacking Taiwan. He stated that China is evaluating the setbacks faced by Russia in the Ukraine conflict and deciding when and how to launch an attack on Taiwan. Burns claimed that Chinese President Xi Jinping would also consider economic uncertainties before deciding to attack Taiwan.

Leaders and analysts from the United States, Japan, and Europe are claiming that the possibility of China attacking Taiwan is becoming stronger by the day. Japanese leaders are warning that China could take advantage of the ongoing conflict in Ukraine to launch an attack on Taiwan. The Biden administration has still not adopted any firm stand on Taiwan. CIA Chief Burns avoided taking an anti-China stand while speaking at a function.

While speaking at the Aspen Security Forum, CIA Chief William Burns reviewed the US and global security challenges and presented the US stand for its adversaries like Russia and China. The CIA Chief claimed that Russia had faced a strategic failure in the Ukraine conflict. Russia thought the offensive military operation in Ukraine would be easy and quick to achieve its objectives. Burns said that Russia is now entangled in this conflict, and China will think about this before launching an attack on Taiwan. Burns claimed that China’s attack on Taiwan is inevitable considering the ambition of Chinese President Xi Jinping to annex Taiwan to China, which cannot be underestimated. President Xi Jinping is quite certain about the capabilities of the Chinese military to accomplish tasks once orders are issued. Burns claimed that China would surely evaluate Russia’s failures in the Ukraine conflict before that.

Russia is focusing on gaining control of the Donbas region instead of entire Ukraine. Burns said that China, too, would take cautious steps while launching an attack on Taiwan. Burn informed that China would also acknowledge that the United States and European countries have come closer because of the Ukraine conflict.

Meanwhile, the Biden administration had announced military aid for Taiwan. However, the decision was revoked due to Chinese pressure. Last month, President Biden announced that the United States would assist Taiwan in the conflict with China. However, due to China’s response and pressure, the Pentagon announced that the United States respects the One China Policy. For the last two days, reports have been received that the speaker of the House of Representatives in the US Congress, Nancy Pelosi, is planning a visit to Taiwan. After China objected, President Biden announced his opposition to Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan.

Voices within the US have criticised the Biden administration’s uncertain policies, which stand to give an advantage to China. US analysts are warning that China would use this advantage to attack Taiwan.
