Wolf Warrior Diplomacy will cost China dearly, criticises former Chinese envoy to US

Beijing: – Cui Tiankai, former Chinese Ambassador to the United States, has fired a salvo of criticism at the Chinese regime’s Wolf Warrior Diplomacy. The former Ambassador claimed that this war based on anger and confrontation would not benefit China. He also advised that the situations with the United States need to be handled cautiously instead of using Wolf Warrior Diplomacy. This criticism by Tiankai becomes significant as he is known to be a trusted associate of President Xi Jinping.

Cui Tiankai has continuously served as the Chinese Ambassador to the United States for eight years, from 2013 to 2021. He is known as the Ambassador who has closely watched the regimes of three US Presidents. Tiankai had been awarded an extension during the tenure of President Trump. Tiankai has a special place in the Chinese political circles as the longest-serving Chinese Ambassador to the United States. Against this background, his criticism of the Chinese diplomatic policies, at an unofficial function, becomes significant.

Tiankai targeted the aggressive statements made by the Chinese diplomats. He said that there is no point in fighting a war that we have not been prepared for and where there is no possibility of winning, just on the emotional quotient. This demonstrates anger and a tendency for confrontation. Whatever we have achieved should not be lost because of others. Don’t be at a loss because of negligence and incompetence. We must always safeguard the broad interest of the country in a complex situation. Do not think of only becoming an internet celebrity.

The former Ambassador also advised China to stop falling prey to the US incitements. Cui Tiankai also warned that China needs to be more cautious regarding its relations with the United States. Cui lashed out at the Chinese policies saying ‘China needs to implement a more farsighted policy rather than retaliating to the US sanctions on an equivalent basis. China should try and retain the US industry and companies in China. It will not be fair on the part of the US administration to force them to return by making certain regulations.’

Over the last few years, Chinese Ambassadors in foreign countries, diplomats and leaders have been using very vitriolic language. Any country, including the western countries, is threatened with strong criticism if they act against China in any way. This Chinese policy is known as the Wolf Warrior Diplomacy and the adamant stand of Chinese President Xi Jinping is said to be the reason for this. A senior leader in the Chinese communist party, Yang Jiechi and Foreign Minister Wang Yi, is considered the promoters of the Wolf Warrior Diplomacy.
