US President and his administration under threat of Havana Syndrome: former NSA John Bolton

Washington: Former US National Security Advisor (NSA) John Bolton warned that the Havana Syndrome could render the senior officials in the US administration, including the President, inactive. Besides, it can have a detrimental effect on the country’s security. Many officials from the previous Trump administration had complained of having vertigo and memory loss. Referring to this, the former NSA warned that such a development during wartime could deliver a major blow.

Moreover, while speaking during the program ’60 Minute’ on the US news Channel’ CBS’, Bolton mentioned the threat of the Havana Syndrome. Bolton warned the Havana syndrome threat exists. ‘We don’t know if that’s the threat we’re facing. But I would much rather focus on finding out the answer now, rather than finding out later when it may be too late. If we were at war and an adversary could disable the President and his top advisers or commanders in the field, it could render us extraordinarily vulnerable.’

Furthermore, reports had surfaced that employees from the US and Canadian embassies were affected by Havana Syndrome in 2016. After realising that even CIA agents were among those affected, the United States had levelled an accusation of a biological attack. At the same time, Russia was charged for attacking the US agents. At the beginning of November, Burns, the Director of CIA, visited Russia and met two high-ranking Russian intelligence agency officials. It is claimed that Havana Syndrome was discussed during the meeting.

Meanwhile, accusations have been levelled against both Russia and China over the Havana Syndrome. But, both countries have dismissed the allegations.
