Taliban kill 20 civilians in Panjshir; concerns grow over ongoing massacre in Afghanistan

London/Geneva/Kabul – The Taliban has killed at least 20 civilians in the Panjshir Valley. Footage that surfaced shows a shopkeeper in Panjshir being inordinately tortured and then shot dead openly on the streets. Also, the United Nations Human Rights Council has laid serious accusations against the Taliban, saying the terror group is assassinating government officials who served during the Ghani government. Thereby all those claiming the Taliban is not a terrorist organization are in a tough spot.

Taliban and their supporters had spread disinformation on Ahmad Massoud, Commander of the Northern Alliance, and Former President Amrullah Saleh, saying they had fled Panjshir. However, two days ago, the Taliban had to admit that Massoud and Saleh were still fighting from the Panjshir valley. After that, reports have revealed that Northern Alliance troops and Taliban militants are engaged in conflict in Panjshir.

The Northern Alliance had alleged that the Taliban had cut off food and water supplies to gain control over Panjshir, along with electricity. It had also accused the Taliban of killing children and the elderly in Panjshir. The Taliban has denied the allegations. Nevertheless, footage has surfaced of the Taliban killing civilians on the streets in broad daylight, accusing them of aiding the Northern Alliance.

Moreover, Michelle Bachelet, head of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (UNHCHR) in Geneva, has made serious accusations against Taliban militants of carrying out large-scale massacres in Afghanistan. Bachelet said the allegations made by the masses of Afghan could not be ignored.
