Beijing: – Chinese foreign ministry warned that Taiwan is not Ukraine and is an integral part of China. Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi accused the US policies choose the path of conflict against China. The United States has announced the Indo-Pacific Strategy given the escalating tensions between Russia and Ukraine. Besides, it has mentioned that the Taiwanese capacity to defend itself is important from the Indo-Pacific point of view. Following the announcement of this policy by the United States, the Taiwanese President has ordered the country’s military to be ready and alert. The intense Chinese reaction has surfaced against this background.
Moreover, the closeness between Russia and China is augmenting against the background of this Russia-Ukraine tension. China has supported Russia on the Ukraine issue and Russia too had declared support for China on the Taiwan issue. Consequently, Taiwan had expressed concerns over this development. Taiwanese worries increased after Russian President Vladimir Putin said two Ukrainian provinces were independent countries. All the more, claims are being made in Taiwan that China will follow the Russian footsteps and take action against Taiwan. Against this background, Taiwan has ordered its defence forces to be on high alert.
In the meantime, the United States has released the Indo-Pacific Strategy and has presented the issue of Taiwanese security in the policy. The Indo-Pacific Strategy has also mentioned that the United States will provide necessary assistance to augment Taiwanese capabilities for self-defence. This inclusion of Taiwan has upset China to a great extent. Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi openly expressed displeasure over this. Wang Yi criticised that the highest priority for the United States through the new policy is to stop China and deliver a wrong message.
Hua Chunying, the Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson, warned that Taiwan is an integral part of China and cannot be compared with Ukraine. The Chinese spokeswoman also warned that China would never compromise with its integrity.
