Six divisions of Indian Army deployed on LAC

New Delhi: – Six divisions of the Indian Army have been deployed on the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in Ladakh. This information was revealed during the visit of Chief of Army Staff General Manoj Pande to the LAC. This shows that the Indian Army has focussed its attention on the China border. Saying that China wants to keep the border dispute alive, the Army Chief had raised doubts over Chinese intentions. Against this background, the reorganisation of the military indicates differently.

While high tension was reigning on the LAC with China for the last two years, Indian Army had deployed two divisions (35,000 soldiers) on the LAC. At the same time, India made deployment equivalent to the Chinese deployment on the LAC following the conflict in the Galwan Valley. Reports had been published in the international media that this Indian preparedness had exerted pressure on the Chinese military. Senior Indian military officials have repeatedly clarified that this came as a big jolt for China, boasting that India would back down in front of its military might.

Military officials and leaders had said that the Galwan conflict and the aggressive stand adopted by the Indian Army had increased Indian reputation on the international level. At the same time, it came in front of the world that India would not bow in front of the Chinese military might. Strategic analysts had warned that China would not stop short of superseding India and establishing its military superiority in this scenario. This prediction came true, and China made many intrusion attempts on the LAC even after the Galwan conflict. But the alert Indian soldiers foiled all the Chinese intrusion attempts.

However, the international situation has changed during this time. The Biden administration is upset with India for not adopting a stand against Russia in the Russia-Ukraine war. US Deputy National Security Advisor had warned, ‘In case of a Chinese intrusion into India, Russia, a slave of China, will not come to Indian rescue. At that time, India will require US assistance.’ India did not change its stand regarding cooperation with Russia even after this. The possibility that China will try to take advantage of this discord between India and the United States cannot be denied.

China is currently focusing on intrusion into the Taiwanese territory and hegemonic activities in the Indo-Pacific sector. This has added to the concerns of Japan and Australia. But if these Chinese activities increase in this sector, China will have to take on the US naval might. Therefore, the pressure on the Biden administration to act against China can increase tremendously. Therefore, China may use the tactics to increase pressure on India with intrusion on the LAC while the India-US relations are strained.

Therefore, the Indian Army has delivered an appropriate message to China regarding its preparation by increasing the deployment manifold. India also has shown China that India is not a country dependent on the United States for its security.
