California: “Saudi Arabia and Sunni Arab nations are working in coalition with Israel to tackle terrorists in the Middle East”, said US CIA Director Mike Pompeo in a stirring statement. He also claimed that Gulf States and Middle East will be more secure, if this cooperation between Israel and Saudi Arabia continues.
While speaking at the ‘Reagan National Defense Forum’ in California, the CIA director clarified about an alliance established between Saudi and Israel. “It is incredibly important that in the Middle East, where we have failed states, where you have ISIS, where you have Iran, that we have got to develop a stronger coalition of countries that are willing to work together to confront these challenges,” he said.
“The US can’t do it on our own, obviously the Saudis can’t do it on their own, and these other countries can’t do it on their own. To confront these challenges coalition of these countries needs to be established”, he said expressing hope from coalition between Saudi and Israel.
Last month, Israel’s Energy Minister Yuval Steinitz had announced that Israel has contacts with Saudi Arabia for common objectives in the Middle East. Israel’s Military Chief had also stated in an interview that Israel and Saudi have an alliance against Iran. However, Israel as well as Saudi had denied any such reports.
Some years back itself former CIA Director and Ex Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta had proposed that the US, Israel and Arab nations should undertake a joint operation to defeat Iran and terrorism. However Israel and Saudi had refrained from discussing the proposal.
Meanwhile, Israel’s Prime Minister Netanyahu last week talked about covert coalition between Israel and neighboring Arab nations. Although Israel’s leaders are talking about this coalition, Saudi has strongly denied any such coalition.
