Russia welcomes the inclusion of Iran into SCOThe two-day ‘SCO’ meeting started on Thursday in Samarkand, Uzbekistan. President of Russia Vladimir Putin and President of Iran Ebrahim Raisi arrived Thursday morning for this meeting. But before the start of this meeting, Iran’s Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian signed the SCO membership declaration late on Wednesday. The foreign minister of Iran announced this through social media.

Foreign Minister Amir-Abdollahian said that by accepting the membership of the SCO, Iran has now become a partner in economic, trade and energy cooperation. Uzbekistan, chairing the meeting, said that although all countries support Iran’s participation in this organisation, it will take at least a year to get full membership. Therefore, SCO, which currently has eight members, will soon become an organisation of nine countries.

Russia welcomes the inclusion of Iran into SCOAgainst the background of this meeting, talks were held independently between the presidents of Russia and Iran. In this, President Putin welcomed Iran’s participation in the SCO. ‘Iran is participating in the most important, largest and most authoritative organisation in the world,’ responded President Putin. Iran’s President Ebrahim Raisi said Russian support significantly assists in dealing with US sanctions.

Meanwhile, if the United States and European countries refuse to sign the nuclear agreement, Iran has revealed that the option of participating in the Russia-China group is open to joining the SCO. By participating in a powerful organisation like SCO and increasing fuel exports and trade, the impact of economic sanctions imposed on Iran by the United States and European countries will reduce further. This makes Iran’s participation in the SCO important economically and strategically.
