Ukraine claims of Russia intensifying attacks in Donbas region

Washington/ Kyiv: It is revealed that Russia, which has withdrawn from the city of Kherson, has focused all its attention on the Donbas region. Ukraine claims that in the last 24 hours, Russian forces have carried out more than 100 attacks in various parts of Donbas. It is said to include air and missile attacks along with artillery shelling. On the other hand, the Ukrainian Prime Minister clarified that the widespread missile attacks, including the capital Kyiv and the port of Odessa, destroyed more than 50% of Ukraine’s power supply system. The country’s leading power company has advised that Ukraine’s citizens should leave the country to save available electricity.

Last week, Russia announced its withdrawal from the city of Kherson. After this retreat, the Ukrainian army increased the extent of its offensive in Kherson and Zaporizhia, trying to capture new areas. Although they had some success, the Ukrainian army could not make much headway. On the other hand, after retreating from Kherson, Russian forces are focusing on Donbas. The Russian army has launched a heavy offensive to capture Bakhmat and other cities in Donbas. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and the Ukrainian Defence Ministry have also been forced to take note of these Russian attacks. In the last 24 hours, Russia has launched major attacks on more than five cities in Donbas. It includes the city of Avdiivka along with Bakhmat. It is said that Russia used fighter jets, missiles, rockets, guns and tanks for these attacks. Ukraine has claimed that Russia has launched almost 100 attacks.

As the fighting intensifies in Donbas, Russia has again launched missile attacks on other cities, including the capital Kyiv. These attacks have caused extensive damage to Ukraine’s power supply and energy systems. The Russian Defence Ministry claimed that Ukraine’s electricity supply system is a military target because it supports the Ukrainian military. Due to the continuous attacks by Russia, the power supply of more than one crore of citizens of Ukraine has been interrupted. The Prime Minister of Ukraine informed that more than 50% of the power supply systems in Ukraine had been destroyed. The leading electricity company in Ukraine ‘DTEK’ has advised Ukrainian citizens to accept the option of leaving the country to save electricity.

Meanwhile, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said that Russia might participate in high-level talks with the United States for strategic stability in the future. At the end of this month, a meeting will be held between Russia and the United States on the issue of a nuclear agreement called ‘New Start’. Against this background, Ryabkov’s statement becomes noteworthy.
