Moscow: On Tuesday, the Biden administration announced that it would supply Ukraine with advanced weapons worth $700 million, including the Himars rocket system. Russia has reacted sharply to the announcement. On Wednesday, Russia started ‘nuclear drills’ near the capital, Moscow. The exercises include the Yars, an intercontinental ballistic missile with a thousand Russian nuclear forces troops. New exercises indicate that Russia is taking the issue of advanced weapons supplied to Ukraine by the United States and NATO very seriously. Last month, William Burns, the head of the US Central Intelligence Agency, warned that the threat of a nuclear attack from Russia was not to be ignored.
As per an article by a US daily, US President Joe Biden has backed the decision to supply advanced weapons to Ukraine. While supporting this, he also mentioned the threat of a nuclear attack from Russia. President Biden warned that Russia’s use of nuclear weapons in the Ukraine conflict would be ‘unacceptable’ and Russia would have to face serious repercussions. He also warned that the repeated statements about the nuclear attack by Russia were ‘dangerous.’
While the warning by Biden is being received, Russia has once again resumed nuclear activities. Russia has launched ‘nuclear drills’ in the Ivanovo region near the capital, Moscow. About a thousand soldiers from the Russian Strategic Missile Forces participated in the exercise. The Yars intercontinental ballistic missile, part of the Russian nuclear triad, has been included in the exercise. The range of this missile is said to be more than 10 thousand kilometres.
Just three days after the start of the conflict with Ukraine, Russian President Vladimir Putin put the nuclear forces on alert. Russia has since twice tested Samrat, the hypersonic nuclear. Russian President Vladimir Putin and other senior Russian officials have repeatedly warned of a possible nuclear attack. Since launching military action in Ukraine, President Putin has also warned of nuclear strikes twice. Putin’s gestures have caused concerns in Western countries. Russia’s launch of nuclear drills near the capital, Moscow, seems to have added to the concerns of the Western countries.
