US Midterm Elections: Republican Party gains in House of Representative

Washington: The results of the November 8 mid-term elections in the United States have begun to become clear. The Republican Party seems to be gaining ground in the House of People’s Representatives, the lower house of the Parliament, while the Democrats seem to lose their majority. Besides, it revealed that the decision of the majority in the Senate, which is the upper house, will remain uncertain until next month. The Republican Party has also succeeded in the race for governorships in various states of the United States. Still, former President Trump is being kept on edge as the Republican Party fails to win a major victory despite the overwhelming resentment against President Joe Biden’s policies. At the same time, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is being portrayed in the media and social media as the future of the Republican Party.

Pre-election surveys and reports revealed that a strong wave against the Biden administration got created in the background of wrong policies and the inefficiency of US President Joe Biden. It was predicted that Biden and the Democratic Party would get a big blow from the voting on Tuesday and that the ‘red wave’ of the Republican Party would be seen in the US Parliament. But the results announced on Tuesday night showed that these predictions, surveys, and reports were fraudulent. Earlier, when Barack Obama was President, the Democratic Party lost more than 60 seats. While Donald Trump was in office, the Republican Party lost nearly 40 seats in the election. The results show that despite the strong discontent against Biden, the Democratic Party has not suffered such a big loss.

According to the results announced until Thursday morning, the Republican Party has won 210 of the 435 seats in the House of Representatives, while the Democrat Party has 192 seats. Some results are yet to be announced, and it is said that the Republican Party will win more than 218 seats required for the majority. But in the Senate elections, the Republican and Democratic parties have 48 seats each. Results for four seats are yet to be out of which re-election for the Senate seat in Georgia will be held next month. Therefore, it is clear that the fate of the Senate will remain uncertain until then.

Despite predictions of a ‘red wave’, President Biden has congratulated the winning candidates for the success of the Democratic Party. On the other hand, there are indications that the conflict between Trump and the anti-Trump group in the Republican Party is on the anvil. Claims that Ron DeSantis, elected as the governor of Florida for the second time, is the future of the Republican Party have started to be made in the media and social media. In the last few years, the news channels and dailies that were supporters of Trump have begun to speak openly against Trump.

Senior Republican Party leaders, advisers and analysts have criticised Trump as becoming a troublemaker for the party. However, Trump has dismissed the accusations and criticism against him and indicated that he will announce the 2024 Presidential Election next week.
