Kathmandu: – Indian Chief of Army Staff, General Manoj Mukund Naravane, is scheduled to visit Nepal in the next month. Before his visit, Samant Goel, the Chief of Research and Analysis Wing (RAW), is on a visit to Nepal. The KP Sharma Oli government in Nepal is in trouble after it was revealed that China has encroached on to Nepalese land. The government is facing severe criticism from the opposition parties as well as the population. After this, the KP Sharma Oli government has indicated to take some decisions to reconcile with India. Against this background, the visit of the RAW chief becomes significant.
The distance was created in the India and Nepal relations after Nepalese Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli accused India of encroaching on to Nepalese land and published a new political map of Nepal. India made it clear that the onus is on Nepal to create a conducive atmosphere for talks, on the border issues, as Nepal had violated the agreement between the two countries by showing Indian territory in the map of Nepal. India believed that the border dispute between the two countries could be resolved through negotiations.
The Nepalese Prime Minister initiated efforts on his own, to improve these strained relations. The Nepalese Prime Minister, wished Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the occasion of the Indian Independence Day, requesting him to start talks regarding the border dispute. He also imposed a ban on the curricular books, carrying the controversial map. Ishwar Pokhrel, known for his anti-India stand, was removed from the Defence Minister’s position. At the same time, Nepal has decided to award Indian Chief of Army Staff, General MM Naravane, with an honorary General’s post.
It is being said that Prime Minister Oil is taking this stand to deliver a message to China because China has started constructions at a rapid pace on the land encroached in the Humla district. China has encroached on a huge piece of Nepalese land, even in the Lapcha district. The KP Sharma Oli government is being slammed over this Chinese encroachment. It is also losing public support.
Against this background, RAW chief Samant Goel is on a visit to Nepal. It is reported that RAW chief Samant Goel, held talks with Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and former Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal. The details of the talks are not available.
