Pakistan to launch a military campaign on Afghan border – claims local media

Islamabad: Six Pakistanis were killed and 17 others injured in clashes between the Afghan Taliban and the Pakistan army on the Durand border. The Taliban also removed the wire fence erected by the Pakistani Army on the Durand Line. Pakistan was angry over the Taliban’s action. There were reports that Pakistan has set to launch a major military campaign along the Afghan border soon. It has been claimed that this campaign of the Pakistan army will be against the terrorists of Tehrik-e-Taliban (TTP). But analysts have pointed out that the attack on the Durand Line was not carried out by Tehrik but by the Afghan security forces, which have been part of the Taliban regime.

For the past few days, there have been reports of a conflict between the Taliban and the Pakistan Army. Besides, the Taliban has uprooted the wire fence in front of Pakistani soldiers on the border of Kunar province. Six people from Pakistan were killed in operation by the Taliban on the Spin Boldak-Chaman border on Sunday. Pakistan’s Defence Minister Khawaja Asif claimed that the Taliban apologised for the border operations after Pakistan slammed it and said it would not take such action anymore. But this has not been confirmed by the Taliban. The Pakistan Army has prepared for a military campaign along the Afghan border despite Pakistan’s defence minister making such claims.

Two days ago, Army Chief General Asim Munir, at a meeting of senior military officials, decided to launch a military campaign to check the growing infiltration from the Afghan border. For this, there have been claims that action would be taken against the terrorists of Tehrik-e-Taliban infiltrating through the Durand border.

But the Afghan Taliban have been challenging the Pakistan Army on the Durand border dispute. Moreover, the responsibility for the attack on the Pakistani ambassador has been claimed not by Tehrik but by an IS-Khorasan (IS-K) terrorist. So analysts have pointed out the discrepancy of the Pakistan army targeting Tehreek by excluding the two.
