New S-400 squadron to be deployed near Chinese borderChinese aircraft movements have increased near the LAC. There have been 16 talks between India and China over the tension in Ladakh. But nothing has come of it. At the same time, there has been an increase in air movements from China near the border. Against this backdrop, the news of the deployment of S-400 in Ladakh assumes significance.

Moreover, Russia has started handing over the second squadron of S-400 to India. India was expected to get this system earlier. However, in February, the Ukraine war broke out. For the first time since the outbreak of the Ukraine war in February, Russia has initiated moves to hand over the second squadron of the S-400 to India. The S-400 system will be brought to India through ships and aircraft.

Last year, Russia handed over the first squadron of S-400 to India in December. This first system received from Russia has been deployed in Punjab. India strengthened the air defence capability in the region by deploying S-400, identifying the aerial threat from Pakistan. Claims have now been made in the media, quoting officials from the defence department, that the next squadron will be deployed directly in Ladakh.

Recently, China’s air activity along the LAC has increased. In Arunachal Pradesh and Ladakh, Chinese aircraft have been seen flying very close to the air border. There were also reports of some aircraft entering the ‘no-fly zone’ area. On June 28, Chinese aircraft attempted a similar incursion in Ladakh. The Indian Air Force had issued a warning to these Chinese aircraft. The issue was later raised separately with China.

China has systematically set up air bases within its borders in the past few years. Runways and aircraft refuelling facilities have also been developed. These air bases are standing close to the Indian border. Fighter planes have also been deployed here on a large scale. Against this backdrop, India is also strengthening air security on China’s front. The deployment of the S-400 is part of this. Earlier, Indian-made air defence systems have been deployed along the LAC. After the deployment of the S-400, the Indian Defence Forces will have a formidable capability to intercept air strikes from China. Therefore, the news that a new squadron of this system will be deployed in Ladakh becomes important.
