Brussels: In the wake of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s warnings about nuclear attacks and increased nuclear deployment at bases near Europe, NATO has organized a wide-ranging ‘nuclear exercise’. From Monday, the ‘Steadfast Noon 22’ exercise began in the North Sea region of Europe alongside Belgium. 14 member countries of NATO, including the United States and the United Kingdom, have participated in this exercise.
Moreover, given Russia’s military campaign in Ukraine, NATO and the United States have provided large amounts of defence assistance to Ukraine. At the same time, moves have significantly increased our deployment and defence readiness in Europe. It also plans to join countries like Finland and Sweden in NATO and deploy new missile systems and fighter jets in those areas. Russia has vehemently opposed this plan. In response to NATO’s moves, Russia has begun deploying nuclear weapons at bases near Europe.
Last week, it was reported that Russia had deployed strategic bombers to the base in Norway. In this background, NATO’s new ‘Nuclear Exercise’ is attracting attention. 60 fighter jets, including US ‘B52’ bombers, will participate in this exercise. Russia has already warned that NATO’s nuclear drills could further inflame tensions in Europe.
