Indian EAM S. Jaishankar warns European nations

Vienna: External Affairs Minister Jaishankar has spoken harsh words to the European countries trying to teach India moral lessons by commenting on India’s cooperation with Russia. In an interview, India’s External Affairs Minister warned that the alarm bells are ringing for Europe. After the economic recession of 2008, European countries took a defensive stance and adopted a policy of keeping their progress in their own pockets. Due to this, European countries ignored very important security issues and tried to keep international issues away from us, Jaishankar criticized. However, Jaishankar also realized that the United States was aware of these problems and took timely steps to cooperate with a country like India.

Jaishankar warns European nationsMoreover, the United States was the first to realize that we are currently transiting through dangerous times and that the world order will take a long time to change. There was a big difference between former US President Barack Obama and Donald Trump, who came to power after that. However, Jaishankar pointed out that these leaders were adamant about United States’ cooperation with India. Although not mentioned, the US leaders realized in time that there was no option but to cooperate with India considering the possible threat from China, said External Affairs Minister Jaishankar in this interview in diplomatic language. However, this clarity is yet to come in European countries, Jaishankar pointed out.

Even today, the world system is largely based on western countries. External Affairs Minister Jaishankar said this system should be changed and multilateral. Each country should be free to cooperate with countries that favour its policy on different fronts. While supporting India’s cooperation with Russia, Jaishankar pointed out that the West is also behind this cooperation. During the Cold War, the US provided weapons to the dictators of Pakistan by refusing to supply arms to India. Due to this, India had to buy weapons from Soviet Russia and India bought these weapons for its defence, Jaishankar reminded.

Does this mean that India is a partner country of Russia? After being questioned by the interviewer, Jaishankar clarified that India does not believe in such coalitions of allies. Jaishankar further said that India cooperates with other countries independently and does not join any alliance, which is a western concept. Meanwhile, while on a tour of European countries, namely Cyprus and Austria, India’s External Affairs Minister has pointed out that European countries are still looking at India with a narrow mindset. However, Jaishankar has made it clear during this tour that India’s cooperation with small European countries like Cyprus and Austria is increasing.
