Tensions on Indo-China border remain high despite talks by foreign ministers

New Delhi: Indian Chief of Defence Staff Bipin Rawat asserted that the Indian Army is all set to face any challenge at any time. CDS Rawat gave the assurance while speaking before the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS). China will not be allowed to change the situation at the LAC at any cost. CDS Bipin Rawat, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Minister of External Affairs S. Jaishankar have sent the message to China that India is prepared to protect its sovereignty at any price. Moreover, Jaishankar had rebuked his Chinese counterpart at the Indo-China bilateral meeting held in Moscow. The Chinese Foreign Minister did not have an answer when India raised the question, ‘For what purpose has China, which has been accusing India of violating bilateral agreements, deployed an army of 50,000 at the border?’ The talks concluded with China agreeing to resolve the border conflict with India during their joint statement. However, the Chinese Foreign Minister made clear the country was not interested in cordial relations with India in another independent statement.

On Thursday, the India-China bilateral meeting was held in Moscow. Notably, both nations released a joint statement in which their agreement on a 5-point plan was announced. The points include reducing the border tensions, continuing with bilateral dialogue to accomplish the same and taking measure to build trust. Nevertheless, a former Indian official stated that the joint statement would not help to achieve much. Moreover, a former military and intelligence officer drew attention to the fact that China was participating in the discussions only to buy time. In reality, China was amassing more and more troops and weapons to fortify its position.

Before the joint statement of Indian Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar and his Chinese counterpart, Wang was released, China published a separate statement against India. China has placed the entire blame for the border tensions at Ladakh on India.

The Chinese and Pakistani media have claimed that China had sternly warned India in the recent bilateral meeting between the foreign ministers. But, in reality, the Indian Foreign Minister has silenced China by asking about the deployment of over 50,000 PLA soldiers at the Ladakh border. Minister S. Jaishankar proved that it was not India but China which was responsible for violation of the bilateral agreements. In the next few hours, China showed its disinterest in resolving the border conflict via negotiations. All the more, by deploying military force and advanced ammunition at the border, China is trying to add pressure on India. Also, the Chinese Communist Party mouthpiece jibed that India was lagging in comparison to China on all fronts, and must retreat or prepare to fight an inevitable war where it would meet the fate of an egg after it collides with a rock.

At the same time, Global Times, a Chinese state-run mouthpiece, also complained that the Indian media are publishing fake news about the movements at the LAC depicting the Chinese army as weak. The mouthpiece also warned that India would come to realise the consequences once the war starts. Meanwhile, the Chinese Communist regime is trying to pressurise India through Global Times psychologically. However, India will not fall prey to Chinese pressure. The Indian Chief of Defence Staff warned China that India is prepared for a face-off against China on all fronts. A few days ago, General Rawat had warned that military action against China was likely. Following that, the Indian Army captured Kala Top and Rezang La. Now, the Indian Army has marched ahead and occupied the Finger 4 at LAC. Recent reports state that despite deploying extensive military force, China had failed to hold back the Indian troops.

The Global Times, which has been warning and issuing threats to the Indian Army, had admitted in one of its articles that the Indian Army was the world’s best at battles in mountainous terrain. Besides, China has experienced the Indian Army’s supremacy during the Galwan conflict and the skirmish at the Pangong Tso Lake on 29 and 30 August. Hence, to restore the lost prestige due to the retreat of its army, which was witnessed by the world, China is making arduous efforts every day. However, China has sunk deep in this miserable battle, and it is now struggling to find a way to withdraw gracefully from this conflict.
