On Tuesday, there were strong attacks on the Latakia port in Syria early in the morning. Missiles landed on the containers stored in the port. As the area was deserted, no casualties were reported at the time of the attack. As per the local media, the containers were utterly destroyed in the attack. Locals informed that five explosions were heard in the attack. In Syria, the news channel affiliated with the Assad regime has held Israel responsible for the attack.

The Syrian news channel accused that these attacks were carried out by Israeli fighter jets. But the Syrian news channel also claimed that the Syrian air defence system neutralised the Israeli missiles in a timely action, citing a military official. The military official said that the firefighters quickly controlled the fire caused by the attack. Latakia is known as the most crucial Syrian port. All the international freight ships containers are delivered and stored at this port. Iran is smuggling weapons into Syria using this port. Israel accused that these weapons are supplied to the terrorist organisation Hezbollah.

The Israeli leaders had announced that appropriate action would be taken against this weapon smuggling for Hezbollah. Therefore, it is being predicted that this could be an Israeli attack. Until now, Israel has not openly accepted the responsibility for the attacks in Syria. The stand of the Israeli military is that reacting to reports appearing in foreign media does not fit in its regulatory framework. But the warning issued by Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett, to Iran, following a meeting with the Prime Ministers of Greece and Cyprus becomes noteworthy. Prime Minister Bennett said, ‘Israel is fighting against the Evil Powers in the sector. This resistance will not stop even for a second. The fight against the destructive powers will continue in the same manner. Israel will never back down.’ This warning issued by the Israeli Prime Minister within hours of the attack on the Syrian port is said to be directed towards Iran and Iran affiliated terrorist organisations Hezbollah and others.
