US Department of Justice opens a probe into confidential documents' leak of Defense Department - Missing documents include documents regarding Ukraine, China, Iran

Washington – It revealed that many confidential documents regarding the US Department of Defense had been leaked on social media. It contains lots of sensitive and important information, and the intelligence and defence officials claimed this incident was related to national security. It was said that the Department of Defense had taken serious note of this, and the Department of Justice of the United States has started investigating the incident. Besides, Russia and Ukraine have accused each other of this leak and claimed that the incident was a part of false propaganda.

At the beginning of March, some documents related to the US Department of Defense were released on a social media app. But this incident did not get much attention. A few days ago, on an online forum called 4chan, the documents of the Defense Department began to get published. In addition, links and screenshots from this forum were posted on social media networks like Telegram and Twitter. As these posts went viral on a larger scale, the administration and the American media took notice of this.

The New York Times newspaper in the US published the first news about this leak. The leaked documents were said to include nearly 100 documents related to Ukraine, China, Indo-Pacific and Iran. All these documents mention that they were classified. At the same time, it has also come to light that some of these documents have been shared with the Five Eyes (FVEY), a group of five countries, including the US.

Most of the missing documents were regarding the Russia-Ukraine conflict. Moreover, the leaked documents included US and allied countries’ involvement in the Ukraine conflict, deployments, discussions with Ukrainian officials, issues about Ukraine’s possible counterattacks, damage to Ukraine, and details of arms supplies to Ukraine. Furthermore, the US Department of Defense has admitted that the issue of leaked documents was serious and said it started an internal investigation.

Apart from the Department of Defense, the US Department of Justice has also started an investigation into the matter. Sources said that this inquiry would focus on how exactly the documents went missing. A report published by the American Daily, Washington Post, claims that panic arose in the Defense Department after this leak. American allies have also asked about this missing document case, and European countries have raised strong resentment.

The accusation session has started in Russia and Ukraine on the Pentagon Leak issue. Both countries have alleged that the case was part of a false propaganda campaign. Officials and analysts in Ukraine claimed that releasing classified documents ahead of possible Ukranian counterattacks against Russia draws attention.
