India and Vietnam sign a Mutual Logistic Support agreement

Hanoi: India and Vietnam have signed an agreement to allow the use of military bases by each other’s defence forces and to mobilise any needed logistical support. The agreement was reached during the visit of Defence Minister Rajnath Singh to Vietnam. There is no record of Vietnam having any such agreement with any other country. This exhibits the trust that Vietnam has in India. The two countries have also signed a vision document to enhance military cooperation.

India and Vietnam sign a Mutual Logistic Support agreement“These agreements will greatly enhance India’s defence cooperation with Vietnam,” said Defence Minister Rajnath Singh. Cooperation between India and Vietnam is vital for stability and security in the Indo-Pacific region. That is why we had discussions with Vietnam’s Defence Minister Phan Van Giang about expanding this cooperation between the two countries, said Defence Minister Rajnath Singh.

India has adopted a program called Make in India, Make for World, which will include arms and defence equipment manufacturing. This could also benefit Vietnam, said Defence Minister Rajnath Singh. He also announced that India would gift simulators for training the Vietnam Air Force and financial assistance to set up a language and IT lab.

Vietnam is an important partner for India’s Act East policy and the Indo-Pacific region. The two countries have made their strategic partnership more comprehensive since 2016. Military cooperation is the mainstay of this relationship, claimed Rajnath Singh. Meanwhile, China’s hegemonic role poses a growing threat to Vietnam, and India’s cooperation is equally important to Vietnam. For this reason, China is very cautious about India’s cooperation with Vietnam. Earlier, China had accused both these countries of conspiring against China and had threatened Vietnam over this.
