India playing a prime role in Indo-Pacific region

Seoul: South Korea announced its policy for a free, peaceful, prosperous Indo-Pacific region. South Korea has said that India will play a major role in the Indo-Pacific region with immense potential and equal value. A few days before this, Japan had also announced to increase in cooperation with India for the betterment of the region, stating that India is a major power in the Indo-Pacific region. While Canada also announced its policy towards the Indo-Pacific region, it gave special importance to its cooperation with India. In the face of possible threats from China in the Indo-Pacific region, the importance given by these countries to cooperation with India is attracting the attention of strategic analysts.

Moreover, South Korea released a 43-page report titled ‘Strategy for a Free, Peaceful and Prosperous Indo-Pacific Region’. This is the first time South Korea has released a report detailing its policy for the Indo-Pacific region. It appears South Korea has taken a very cautious stance with minimal mention of China, a very important country in the region. However, it has been highlighted in the report that India is a country with immense potential in the Indo-Pacific region and values similar to those of South Korea. Also, saying that India has a major role in the Indo-Pacific region, South Korea has said that cooperation with India will be increased in the future.

Furthermore, China’s hegemonic activities may threaten South Korea as well as other countries in the Indo-Pacific region. South Korea is threatened with an apocalypse by North Korea. China’s support for North Korea’s aggression was repeatedly revealed. In such a situation, South Korea is aware that the danger facing us is rooted in China. For this reason, South Korea seems to have given special importance to cooperation with India while announcing its policy in the Indo-Pacific region. Mentioning India as a country that plays a major role in this field, South Korea has conveyed that diplomatic and military cooperation with India will be very important in its policies.

A few days ago, Japan also highlighted the importance of its country’s cooperation with India while informing about the Indo-Pacific region and its security policy. Stating that India’s position in this maritime area is exceptional, Japan had indicated its cooperation with India to oppose China’s hegemonic activities. Earlier, in November, Canada announced its policy on the Indo-Pacific region and announced that Canada would increase its cooperation with India.

Especially after Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s sharp disagreement with Chinese President Xi Jinping came to light at the G20 conference held in Bali, Indonesia, Canada’s initiative for cooperation with India in the Indo-Pacific region was significant. Prime Minister Trudeau claimed that China had become an increasingly volatile country while India had become an important partner of Canada.
