New Delhi: – India has surpassed the United Kingdom on the Unicorn companies’ front. India has reached the third position in the list of countries with the most Unicorn companies, after the United States and China. It is also claimed that the number of a unicorn (Valued more than $1 billion) private start-ups in India will increase further soon.
According to a report released by Hurun Research Institute, the number of unicorn companies in India has reached 54. Compared to 2020, the number of unicorn companies in India has increased by 33. The number of unicorn companies in the UK rose by 15 to 39 last year. Bangalore alone has the most significant number of unicorns globally, compared to Boston, Palo Alto, Paris, Berlin, and Chicago. According to the report, currently, there are 28 such unicorn companies in Bangalore.
Apart from this, the number of unicorns established abroad by Indians has reached 65. This includes companies like Postman, Moglix, Innovator. Hurun has said that after China, Israel and Russia, most founders of unicorn companies are Indians. Hurun also pointed out that unicorns established by expatriate Indians are mainly in Silicon Valley.
The Government of India is promoting start-ups. The results of this strategy are evident and the number of start-ups in India is growing exponentially. These start-ups are now making billions. Start-ups worth over Rs 1 billion and not listed on the stock exchange are called unicorn start-ups or unicorn companies. The number of such companies is increasing in India.
With the number of start-ups worth more than one billion increasing by 33 over the past year, now a start-up ecosystem seems to be developing in India. Some of these Indian start-ups are among the most valued unicorn companies globally. 15 Unicorn companies in India are in the field of e-commerce.
2021 has been the most successful year in the history of Unicorn companies. This year, the number of unicorn companies worldwide has almost doubled to 1,038. By 2020, there were only 568 unicorn companies worldwide. Most unicorn companies are from the US, followed by China. However, Unicorn companies in both countries have seen a decline in value in 2020.
