India will develop strategic partnership with Egypt- Prime Minister Narendra Modi

New Delhi: India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi held bilateral talks. Subsequently, Prime Minister Modi expressed determination to develop a strategic partnership with Egypt. Both countries signed agreements in fields related to cultural exchange, IT, cyber security, and media with a target to achieve $12 billion in bilateral trade in the next five years.

The main discussion points were ongoing Russia- Ukraine conflict, the food and fertilizer shortage, and the energy crisis. Both leaders acknowledge the danger of cross-border terrorism, which cannot be tolerated. Strategic cooperation between India and Egypt is agreed upon and it could be instrumental for regional peace and stability. Prime Minister Modi said that both countries would prepare a plan for special cooperation in political, security, economic and scientific fields.

Five agreements covering cultural exchange, IT, cybersecurity, and media information exchange were signed during the visit of Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi to India. Accordingly, Prasarbharti and the National Media Authority of Egypt will undertake a joint project. A target to increase bilateral trade from presently $7 billion to $12 billion in the next five years was set by both leaders. Egypt seems keen to buy Tejas fighter jets, radar systems, military helicopters, air-to-air missiles and anti-aircraft systems from India.
