Imran Khan escapes an attack during 'Long March'While Imran Khan’s long march was near Allahwala Chowk in Punjab’s Wazirabad city, his container was shot by Naveed, a youth. Videos of Imran Khan being shot in the leg and being injured have been released. Naveed was stopped there by Imran Khan’s supporters and a disaster was averted. Imran Khan was immediately admitted to the hospital and treatment was started. Pakistani media is giving information that he is safe and will soon undergo surgery. One person was killed in this attack and Faisal Javed, a former Member of Parliament and an associate of Imran Khan, was injured.

This attack on Imran Khan was not meant to scare or warn him. The leaders of Imran Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) are alleging that a conspiracy to kill him is behind the attack. Besides, some of these leaders started talking about revenge for this attack. Some have also alleged that the government of Pakistan is behind this. Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif has condemned the attack on Imran Khan and expressed his wish that he should recover from this injury.

Meanwhile, Pakistan’s Information Minister Maryam Aurangzeb has advised that PTI leaders accusing their government of this attack should speak responsibly. But Imran Khan’s supporters are preparing to take to the streets and teach the government a lesson, saying that the attack on Imran Khan violates the red line. Imran Khan took bullets on his body for the people of Pakistan, but if the people of Pakistan do not answer this by taking to the streets, then the people will remain enslaved forever. Also, while there were allegations that the government and the Pakistan Army had planned a conspiracy to kill Khan, Naveed, who shot Imran Khan, gave a different version.

There is no one behind me. Naveed said that I attacked Imran Khan as he was misleading the people. However, the leaders of Imran Khan’s party are not ready to accept this statement. Journalists in Pakistan are reminded that Imran Khan himself claimed this would be a ‘killer march’. Imran Khan should have avoided this long march when Pakistan’s economy was in deep trouble. By saying that Pakistan’s adversaries like India, Israel and the United States were waiting for a similar opportunity, some Pakistani journalists have predicted the possibility of a foreign hand behind this attack. The Ministry of External Affairs of India has said that India is closely monitoring the developments in Pakistan after the attack on Imran Khan.
