The speaker of the house said that he had no idea about the arrest. The leaders of the opposition parties PPP and Muslim League have united against this arrest. Both these parties have alleged that there is a conspiracy to eliminate opposition, behind the arrest of Khurshid Shah.

Maulana Fazal Ur Rehman, the leader of the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province, announced a long march to protest against the government. Rehman has predicted that the Imran Khan government will be overthrown because of this long march. Khurshid Shah had made preparations to participate in this long march and had initiated steps towards it. It is being said that this is the reason for his arrest.

Against this background, it was exposed that Marshal Law has been imposed in the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province. The Pakistan military is behind this, and this is apparently being done by the military, to save the Imran Khan government. There is widespread criticism that these developments are anti-democracy and the Imran Khan government is treading a path towards dictatorship.

The Pakistani agencies had served a notice to Khurshid Shah for malpractices. The Pakistan government clarified that he was arrested for ignoring the notice and the Pakistan government has nothing to do with the arrest. At the same time, the Pakistan government has warned that stern action will be taken against any opposition leader involved in malpractices.

The imposition of Martial Law in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province and Khurshid Shah’s arrest are interconnected, and it delivers a message that the Pakistan government will intensify its actions further to crush the opposition. Pakistan government has made preparations to justify the action, connecting it to national security. The Pakistan government, opposed to India on the Kashmir issue, claimed of a war-like situation. Pointing a finger to this, the opposition leaders are questioning the government decisions.

The Muslim League leaders in Pakistan made some vitriolic criticism ‘The government is apathetic about the Kashmir issue, and the Imran Khan government thinks that everything can be achieved in the Kashmir issue, through statements. Otherwise, the Imran Khan government would have initiated efforts to bring all the political parties together. But instead, it is playing politics of vengeance. This is making it difficult for the opposition leaders to cooperate with the government despite having a desire to do so.’

Moreover, the opposition parties need not do anything against the Imran Khan government. The observers expressed an opinion that given the rising inflation, increasing unemployment and failure on all the fronts, including Kashmir, the people of Pakistan will take to the streets to agitate against the Pakistan government. These observers are pointing out that supporters of Imran Khan also have started opposing him. As they are aware of the situation, the military is making desperate efforts to eliminate the possibility of an agitation, against the government.
