Russia Ukraine Conflict triggered global Energy and Food Crisis, warns G7 group

Berlin: The G7 group has warned that a severe crisis is developing in the food and energy sector on the global level, given the Russia-Ukraine conflict. While issuing this warning during the G7 meeting in Berlin, the G7 member countries warned that the poorer countries were being hit hard due to this crisis. German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock claimed that this ‘Global Food Crisis’ resulted from the blockade of exports of millions of tonnes of food grain from Ukraine.

These countries are leaders in the production of wheat, legumes, corn and sunflower. 14% of the total legumes exported are from these two countries. The Russia-Ukraine conflict has severely hit agricultural production in both countries. The Russian exports have been affected even given the sanctions imposed by the westerners. Whereas, the agricultural land in Ukraine suffered massive damages in the Russian attack. At the same time, the exports from the Ukrainian regions under Russian control have been stopped.

Based on this, the G7 group has blamed the Global Food Crisis on Russia. G7 countries warned that historical crisis are developing in the food grain and energy sector given the aggressive Russia-Ukraine conflict. The crisis has severely hit poor countries all over the world. G7 claimed that countries from the Gulf and Africa face the crisis of food grain shortage and starvation.

At the same time, the G7 countries issued a warning even to China not to assist Russia in reducing the effect of the sanctions imposed against Russia.
