Germany signs agreement with Qatar for fuel gasGerman Finance Minister Robert Habeck visited Qatar on Sunday. The German Finance Minister held discussions with Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani of Qatar in capital Doha. The Qatar government informed that the talks included fuel cooperation and other bilateral cooperation. Neither Qatar nor Germany have revealed the details of the agreement. Qatar has been trying for a deal with Germany for the last few years. But the two countries did not agree on the subject. But Qatar informed that Qatar would supply vast quantities of fuel gas to Germany under this new agreement.

The international media are pointing out that Germany does not have adequate storage capacity for the gas supplied by Qatar. To date, Germany, like the other European countries, was purchasing large quantities of fuel gas from Russia. But the Russian supply is through a pipeline. The fuel gas supplies have been disrupted given the Russian attack on Ukraine. Therefore, Germany has initiated steps to make alternate arrangements for fuel gas. Germany has signed this agreement with Qatar against this background. But the international media are pointing out that Germany does not have the necessary terminals to handle the gas supplied by Qatar in tankers.

Meanwhile, Ireland and Lithuania are demanding that the European Union should impose harsher sanctions against Russian fuels. All the European countries oppose sanctions against Russian fuels, saying that survival is not possible without Russian fuels. Substantial differences are surfacing in the European Union over the issue.
