Indian MEA holds talk with leading countries during Security Conference in Munich

Munich: – Indian Minister of External Affairs is participating in the security conference held in Munich in Germany. During the conference, he held talks with the Foreign Ministers of Germany, Romania, Slovenia, Georgia, Saudi Arabia, Iran, magnolia and Singapore. The Ukraine issue, developments in the Indo-Pacific sector, and Afghanistan’s situation were the central issues during the talks. Indian MEA Jaishankar also held discussions with former US Secretary of Defence James Mattis.

Indian MEA Jaishankar, participating in the Munich Security Conference, met the German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock. The issues of Ukraine-Russia tension, global climate changes, and Afghanistan were the issues on the anvil during the talks. The German naval chief had said that the Indian and German interests regarding Russia are similar. Moreover, the chief had also claimed that it was in the interest of India and Germany to stop Russia from getting closer to China. He had to resign in the wake of the reactions generated by his statements. But it had been revealed that consequently, the policies of India and the new German government are favourable to each other.   

Germany, deviating from its traditional anti-Russia policies, established fuel cooperation with Russia. Vitriolic reactions are being received from the United States over this. But the new government in Germany is trying to counter the US pressure with cooperation from other countries in Europe and even India. Against this background, these talks between Indian and German Foreign Ministers becomes significant. Meanwhile, Indian MEA S. Jaishankar met Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal Bin Farhan Al-Saud. Jaishankar informed that the challenges faced by the global economy were discussed in detail with the Saudi Foreign Minister.   

S Jaishankar said that the Strategic partnership Council formed two years ago by India and Saudi to develop strategic cooperation between the two countries was reviewed during the discussions. Saudi had announced an investment of $200 billion in India. Saudi is also making rapid moves to strengthen military cooperation with India. A few days ago, the Saudi army chief had visited India.   

Meanwhile, Foreign Minister Jaishankar also held discussions with Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian. The Iranian Foreign Minister apprised the Indian Minister of External Affairs regarding the nuclear deal between the United States and Iran. Jaishankar posted on social media that thoughts were also exchanged on the India-Iran economic cooperation and connectivity and the Afghanistan issue. The Indian Minister of External Affairs also held talks with Foreign Ministers of Romania, Slovenia, Georgia, magnolia and Singapore.  

The Indian Minister of External Affairs posted on social media that Former US Secretary of defence James Mattis threw more light on the defence-related policies of the United States and shared some enlightening information.
