Democrats gain control over Senate by winning US midterm polls in Nevad

Washington: The Republican Party seems to have failed to turn the strong discontent against President Joe Biden and the Democratic Party before the mid-term elections in the United States into a political victory. Despite the resentment against Biden, the ruling Democrats have regained control of the Senate in the US Congress. At the same time, there are indications that the Republican Party will get a nominal lead in the House of Representatives, which is the lower house of the Parliament. The failure is bringing the divisions within the Republican Party on the anvil, with senior Senator Rick Scott reacting that the results of the midterm elections are a deep disappointment to the party.

Voting for the mid-term elections in the United States was held on November 8th. Pre-election polls and reports revealed that President Biden’s wrong policies and ineffectiveness and the left-wing support of the Democratic Party created a strong wave against the Biden administration. It was predicted that Biden and the Democratic Party would get a big blow from the voting on Tuesday and that the ‘red wave’ of the Republican Party would be seen in the US Congress.

Moreover, according to the results announced till Sunday, the Republican Party has won 211 of the 435 seats in the House of Representatives. While the Democrat Party has got 204 seats. Some results are yet to be announced and it is said that the Republican Party will win more than 218 seats, which is required for a majority. But the media and analysts claimed that the Republican Party would not have a substantial lead. Sources in the Republican Party have also confirmed this.

The Republican Party has suffered a huge blow in the Senate elections. According to pre-election projections, the Republican Party was expected to win 52 to 54 seats. But the party has suffered a big blow in four seats and the Democrats have succeeded. It includes Pennsylvania along with, Arizona and Nevada. Catherine Cortez Masto, a Democrat, has won the Nevada primary. She defeated Adam Laxalt, a pro-Trump candidate from the Republican Party, by more than 6,000 votes.

Fifty out of the hundred seats have come to the Democrats after the results of the decisive contests like Arizona and Nevada became clear. This marks the first time in two decades that the same party has the President and control of the Senate after the midterm elections. After this defeat, intense reactions were received from the Republican Party and former President Trump was targeted. Trump is being criticised for losing the decisive contests due to the wrong candidate and self-centred campaign by the US media and senior circles of the Republican Party. Senior party leaders have commented that the mid-term results are very disappointing and a change is needed. Therefore, there are indications that Trump will face a big challenge from the Republican Party in the coming times.
