The crisis of ‘Artificial Intelligence’ is worse than climate change – researcher Geoffrey Hinton warns

Washington- ‘I will not say that the severity of the climate change problem is low and do not worry about it. Climate change is also a big issue. But the threat posed by artificial intelligence seems more urgent and more important,’ warned Geoffrey Hinton, a researcher who developed ‘Generative AI’. A few days ago, Hinton warned that ‘AI’ can be used for malicious purposes. In a Stanford University report, it was realized that due to artificial intelligence, a nuclear crisis could be faced by the world.

There has been a strong discussion on Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the past few years. On the one hand, claims are being made to eliminate problems and difficulties in many fields due to the use of this technology. On the other hand, it is pointed out that no one will have control over the progress of this technology and warns about its dangers. Hinton, who has been working in the world’s leading information technology company Google for many years, caused a stir by announcing that he resigned from his job to expose the dangers of AI.

Since then, Hinton has consistently warned about the dangers of Artificial Intelligence (AI) through various media. A few days ago, he had warned that ‘AI’ would be used by the wrong people or groups and it would have disastrous consequences. After that, he has drawn attention by stating that the scope of the threat of ‘AI’ is more important than any other threat in the world.

‘Achieving and reducing carbon emissions can reduce the effects of climate change. But this is not possible in the case of artificial intelligence. There is still uncertainty about what we can do to reduce the threat of AI,’ Hinton said, adding that the threat posed by artificial intelligence is ‘great and urgent.’ However, he claimed that even though there is danger, stopping the research completely is not the solution.

In March, the US-based Future of Life Institute wrote an open letter to the international community regarding the dangers of artificial intelligence. In this, it was appealed that the ongoing big experiments and research in the field of artificial intelligence should be stopped for six months. Referring to this, Hinton opposed blocking research. But at the same time, he also made it clear that he believed that AI could pose a threat to the existence of mankind.

Before Hinton, AI expert Eliezer Yudkowsky had also warned that the development of ‘smart artificial intelligence’ could lead to the destruction of mankind on Earth. Due to the use of AI, the unemployment crisis in the global economy is also feared to worsen. Goldman Sachs, a company, has reported a frightening conclusion that 300 million people may lose their jobs due to AI.
