Chinese fuel companies occupy Myanmar territory

Yangon: Chinese companies laying fuel pipelines in Myanmar have illegally occupied Myanmar territories. A local organisation has drawn the attention of the junta regime to this through a report. The military regime that came to power with Chinese backing has started fearing Chinese intrusion into their country by taking advantage of the Russia-Ukraine conflict. Against this background, the Myanmar military has called an emergency meeting.

These companies have invested nearly $2.5 billion in these projects in Myanmar. China is supplied natural gas and oil through this pipeline known as the Myanmar-China Oil and Gas Pipeline.

The pipeline, which originates in the Rakhine province in Myanmar, extends up to the Nam Kham region near China. The civilian organisation Myanmar-China Pipeline Watch Committee (MCPWC) criticised this 793-kilometre-long pipeline divides Myanmar into two parts. The civilian organisation published a report based on the surveys conducted in more than 100 Myanmar villages. The report notes that these Chinese companies have entered into agreements with the local farmers and have acquired their lands. The Chinese companies have violated all the laws in Myanmar for this purpose. The concerned organisation has accused in the report that these Chinese companies have betrayed local farmers and the junta regime. The report criticises that this amounts to cheating the local farmers and the junta regime.

The junta regime in Myanmar has taken serious cognisance of the report. Some officials from the Junta regime fear that the pipeline is dividing Myanmar into two parts. Currently, the Russia-Ukraine conflict is raging. The attention of the entire world is focused on that. The suspicion is strong that China may acquire Myanmar territory taking advantage of this in the junta regime. Besides, this is a significant development. However, the Junta regime will not muster the courage to confront China as it provided all the necessary assistance to overthrow the elected government.
