Washington/Beijing: The US Senate passed a bill for Taiwan for $4.5 billion in military aid. Through this, the US will provide direct military assistance to Taiwan. The decision is claimed to challenge China’s ‘One China Policy’. Thus, an enraged China accused the United States of violating limits. Besides, China has warned that the United States will have to suffer severe consequences, and the peace and security of the Taiwan Strait will be under threat.

China had criticised the visit of senior members of the US Senate. Also, China’s warplanes and destroyers had started military exercises encircling Taiwan. On Wednesday, a meeting of the Senate’s Foreign Relations Committee, chaired by Menendez, decided to provide military aid to Taiwan.

‘We need to be clear-eyed about what we are facing,’ said Senator Menendez while announcing the decision about Taiwan. Moreover, Senior Republican Senator James Risch said, ‘If we want to ensure Taiwan has a fighting chance, we must act now.’ He further warned that any challenge to Taiwan’s security would be fatal to the US economy and national security. The US media is reminding us that this bill, passed by the Senate committee, must also be approved by the majority in the House of Representatives.

The media says that the United States has indirectly trampled China’s ‘One China Policy’ through this decision regarding Taiwan.

Meanwhile, Taiwan welcomed the decision of the US Senate. But China’s Foreign Ministry, angered by this, threatened the United States in clear terms. Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Mao Ning accused the US of violating the ‘One China Policy’ with this decision. Ning further said that due to this decision of the US, peace and security in the Taiwan Strait may be threatened.
