Clashes break out in the army at the Kyrgyzstan-Tajikistan border

A Tajik jawan was killed in this conflict that started over a border dispute. Russia has appealed to both countries to establish peace. Armenia and Azerbaijan conflicts have already caused a headache for Russia, embroiled in a Ukraine conflict. In such a situation, the conflict between two more Soviet countries has proven as a challenge for Russia.

Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan, created after the partition of Soviet Russia in the 1990s, have had sharp differences over border disputes for the past several years. For this reason, border firing incidents happen between the armies of both countries. Last year, the clashes between the troops of Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan led to a war-like situation. Moreover, a Tajikistan jawan was also killed in a similar border clash in June this year.

Russia has military bases in both the Soviet countries of Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan. Besides, the two countries will also participate in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization-SCO, which begins in Uzbekistan next Thursday. In such a situation, the conflict between these two countries adds to Russia’s concerns. Two days ago, conflict broke out between Armenia and Azerbaijan, both Soviet countries. The Kyrgyzstan-Tajikistan dispute could be a warning to Russia’s security.
