Two days ago, the Chinese embassy had released a statement for the Indian media. The embassy demanded that India has accepted the ’One China’ policy and the Indian media too, should not violate this policy. As per analysts, this statement of the Chinese embassy, was more of a warning for India, rather than the media. Indians infuriated with this, gave their good wishes to Taiwan, more enthusiastically. Whereas, the Indian foreign ministry replied that India has a free media policy.

Some of the leading Indian media, dismissed the Chinese demand, displaying special advertisements, without paying any heed to China. Whereas, Indians ran big campaigns in support of Taiwan, on social media. One of the local leaders in New Delhi displayed posters wishing Taiwan on its National Day, on both sides of the road outside the Chinese embassy and made the photographs of the posters viral, on social media. Upset with the posters supporting Taiwan, displayed outside the embassy, the Chinese ambassador demanded immediate removal of the concerned posters. Within the next few hours, the Chinese government mouthpiece Global times threatened India.

The Chinese mouthpiece warned that at a time when the India-China relations are already strained, India has put the relations further in jeopardy, by displaying posters supporting Taiwan, outside the Chinese embassy. At the same time, the mouthpiece warned that Chinse might is much more than India and India should avoid playing with fire. The local leader in New Delhi answered the threat issued by the Chinese mouthpiece, himself. The leader gave a vitriolic reply ‘Last year, the Chinese President visited India. We welcomed him with open arms as per our policy of ‘Atithi Devo Bhava’ (Guest is god). But China betrayed India and backstabbed us. You started playing with fire and you spoilt the relations. We have only begun repaying your betrayal with interest. You will face further replies, wait.’

Taiwanese President Tsai Ing-Wen and Foreign Minister Joseph Wu have expressed gratitude acknowledging the Indian wishes. At the same time, the Taiwanese President expressed hope that India and Taiwan can come together for independence, the security of human rights and democratic lifestyle.
