Washington/Beijing: Leading US news channel CNN claimed that the Huawei company, having close links with the Chinese communist regime, spied on the US nuclear weapons. CNN clarified that the information came from sources in the US Agency Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). The news report also claims that all this started during the tenure of former US President Barack Obama.
Former US President Donald Trump had adopted an aggressive stand against China and took some decisive actions. In 2019, Trump allocated $2 billion to change the equipment supplied by the Chinese telecommunication companies. These included leading Chinese companies Huawei and ZTE. Moreover, China Telecom and other drone and security camera manufacturers were also blacklisted. But the actions against China slowed down after Joe Biden took over as the US President.
Against this background, the report by a leading news channel like CNN becomes sensational. The CNN report mentions nuclear bases in the Montana, Wyoming and Nebraska provinces. Cell Towers based on Huawei technology have been installed near these bases. 
FBI and other agencies claim that these cell towers can catch the conversations and messages from the US Strategic Command, which is responsible for nuclear weapons.
Chinese companies have dismissed the claims and clarified that the equipment supplied is per US criteria. But the US investigation agencies have not accepted the clarification given by the Chinese companies. Only a few days ago, during a press conference held in London, the FBI chief had warned about the increasing extent of Chinese espionage.
