China restless over ongoing trade talks between US and Taiwan

Washington/Taipei/Beijing: The discussions for a trade agreement has started between the United States and Taiwan on Monday. A few months ago, the United States indicated strengthening trade ties with Taiwan. After that, US-Taiwan Initiative on 21st Century Trade was announced at the beginning of this month, and now the discussions have started. China is restless with this development and has warned the US against establishing any formal trade agreement with Taiwan.

Against this background, the United States and its allies have decided to strengthen cooperation with Taiwan further. The US Congress proposed demand for a Free Trade Agreement with Taiwan.

In accordance with this, the United States has started engaging in dialogue to sign agreements with Taiwan for trade and investment. The talks held on Monday are considered to be a part of the same initiative. The United States discussed the possibility of signing an agreement with Taiwan covering agriculture, digital trade, human resources, small and medium industry and government projects.

China has received intense reactions to the talks held between the United States and Taiwan. Zhao Lijian, the spokesman of the Chinese foreign ministry, warned that the United States should not increase cooperation on any level with Taiwan, respecting the One China Policy.
