China imposes sanctions against US arms companies

Beijing: China announced sanctions against two US arms companies on selling weapons to Taiwan. The companies are Raytheon Technology and Lockheed Martin. This is the third time China has imposed sanctions against the US defence sector companies.

China imposes sanctions against US arms companiesTwo weeks ago, the United States approved modernising Patriot Missiles System deployed in Taiwan. This agreement is worth $100 million and the implementation will start the next month. Both Raytheon Technologies and Lockheed Martin are a part of this agreement. China had expressed strong displeasure at that time.

The Chinese foreign ministry had warned that China would take appropriate measures to protect Chinese sovereignty and security. The sanctions announced on Monday is a part of the same measures. China shared the information regarding the sanctions imposed against the US companies, saying, ‘Decision has been taken to impose sanctions against Raytheon Technologies and Lockheed Martin under the provisions of the Chinese Anti Foreign Sanctions Law. Both these companies are a party in selling weapons by the United States to Taiwan.’

Before this, China had imposed sanctions against companies from the US defence sector in 2019 and 2020.
