British PM Boris Johnson visits India

Ahmedabad: British Prime Minister Boris Johnson is on this visit to India. He visited Mahatma Gandhi’s Sabarmati Ashram in Gujarat, followed by meeting with leading businessmen. Later, Prime Minister Johnson visited the project of a British company in Gujarat. Meanwhile, there is a good possibility that the free trade agreement between India and the United Kingdom will be signed during this visit of Prime Minister Johnson.

British PM Boris Johnson visits IndiaThe British Prime Minister’s visit is essential against the background of the current Ukraine war. There were claims that the British Prime Minister’s agenda would pressure India to restrain its cooperation with Russia. However, at the beginning of this India visit, Prime Minister Boris Johnson has clarified that he was not here to lecture on this subject and that he was aware of the deep-rooted relations between India and Russia. Johnson clarified that the objective of the visit was to strengthen diplomatic and trade relations with India.

The United Kingdom is keen on enhancing cooperation with India in different industrial verticals like 5G technology and Artificial Intelligence. Prime Minister Johnson clarified that the United Kingdom would work to create employment, development, and new opportunities for people of both countries.

Two rounds of talks between the countries on the free trade agreement are completed. The next round will be held next week. Since India- Australia signed the free trade agreement, it seems that the United Kingdom is making efforts to sign the agreement with India.
