Washington: US Deputy Secretary of State Wendy Sherman has appealed to Europe to support the United States in its fight against China. She has said that European security, economy and values are under significant threat from China. In less than three days after that, the Biden administration indicated a reduction in taxes on Chinese products. It has been exposed that the Biden administration, which has been inciting European countries against China, is itself giving tax breaks to China.
Moreover, while speaking to the media last week, US Deputy Secretary of State Wendy Sherman warned Europe of the growing dangers posed by China. Sherman had warned that in February, Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that there was no limit to bilateral cooperation between the two countries. This cooperation could prove dangerous for Europe. But even before that, China poses a serious threat to Europe’s security, economy and values.’
The US Deputy Secretary of State said that although China is thousands of miles away from Europe, its actions could be dangerous to the future of Europe. Sherman appealed to Europe to support the United States in its fight against China. But the United States does not want to start a new Cold War with China or cut off economic cooperation with China, added Sherman.
Less than two days after the Biden administration’s confusing stance, US Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo indicated a cut in taxes on Chinese products. Gina said that US President Joe Biden had given instructions for this action. Inflation in the US has peaked at the highest levels in the last 40 years. The US Secretary of Commerce said that the decision to cut tariffs on China would be taken to control it.
Two years ago, then-US President Donald Trump declared a trade war against China. The United States imposed heavy tariffs on Chinese products. It was reported that the Chinese economy was hit hard. Incumbent US Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo also acknowledged that some of the sanctions imposed on China during the Trump administration were effective. But now, the US is cutting taxes on Chinese products, citing rising US inflation as the reason. But the Biden administration expects the European countries to take a different stance regarding China.
Meanwhile, US allies have complained that the Biden administration is not taking a firm stand against the expansionist policies of China. A few weeks ago, former Japanese Prime Minister Abe Shinzo criticized the Biden administration’s confused stance on Taiwan. Now the United States seems to be freeing China from oppression by offering trade concessions. This will be of great benefit to China and will only add to the problems of Taiwan and other countries facing the threat of Chinese aggression.
