Attacks on Chinese nationals in Afghanistan likely to intensify in 2023 – international analysts warn

Hong Kong: International analysts claim that the attack on Chinese nationals last month in a hotel in Kabul by the IS Khorasan terrorists is just a glimpse. The IS terrorist would intensify the attacks on Chinese citizens to avenge the atrocities committed by China on the Uyghur Muslims in Xinjiang.

The Chinese communist regime has been targeting Uyghur people in the Xinjiang province by holding and torturing men in concentration camps. China is accused of conspiring to eliminate the Uyghur race. China has consistently denied these allegations and invited international observers to visit Xinjiang. China claims that the delegation has given them a clean chit. However, analysts feel that China’s oppression of the Uyghur will have repercussions in Afghanistan.

Analysts are citing an attack on Chinese nationals in a hotel in Kabul, the responsibility of which was claimed by the IS Khorasan terrorist group. Five Chinese people were seriously injured in the attack, which took place where there were many other Chinese businessmen, diplomats, and civilians. The attack was a warning to China, claimed Faran Jeffery, director of the South Asia Terrorism Department of the UK-based Islamic Theology of Counter-Terrorism-ITCT.

Jeffrey warned that similar attacks on China’s interests in Afghanistan are likely to continue as cooperation with the Taliban regime was never established. According to IS, China’s communist regime is atheistic and oppresses the Uighur Muslims in China. IS terrorists feel the attacks are justified as the Chinese regime has formed a cooperation with the Taliban regime. This warning message of Jeffery was a part of an article posted in the Hong Kong-based newspaper, South China Morning Post.

China has invested heavily in Afghanistan since the Taliban came to power. It is claimed that 500 Chinese businessmen landed in Afghanistan last month. Also, China has promised to establish cooperation with the Taliban and get recognition for the Taliban regime from the international level, provided the Taliban leaders agree to the demands made by China.

China has demanded that the Taliban act against the terrorist organization East Turkestan Islamic Movement (ETIM), which is a threat to the Chinese regime. China also wants the Taliban to eliminate the bases of Uyghur extremists in Afghanistan’s Badakhshan, Faryab and Nuristan provinces. If these conditions are met, China will attempt to get recognition from the international community for the Taliban regime. Angered by this, the IS militants may target Chinese nationals to avenge the atrocities committed by the Chinese regime on the Uyghur Muslims, according to Nishank Motwani, a professor at the Harvard Kennedy School.
