Apple to start manufacturing iPhone 12 in India from next year

New Delhi: Apple, the giant in the technology sector, will start producing iPhone 12 in India by the middle of next year. The Taiwanese company Wistron, manufacturing iPhones for Apple, has started test manufacturing at its Narasapura facility in the state of Karnataka. This will be the seventh iPhone model to be manufactured in India. This decision taken by Apple will infuse strength into the Indian efforts for becoming a global manufacturing centre.

iPhone 12

Apple has started winding up from China and has asked the affiliate companies to shift base elsewhere out of China. Thereafter, Apple began to manufacture iPhone 11 at the facility of Foxconn in Chennai. At the same time, preparations to start the manufacture of iPhone 12 also has been started. Six models, SE, SE-2, S, 7, XR and 11 of iPhone are manufactured in India. There is a possibility of a reduction in the cost as Apple will be producing the phones in India. At the same time, employment will be generated on a large scale.  

Wistron company will be investing ₹2.9 billion in India for iPhone production and will be employing nearly 10,000 people in a phased manner. Currently, there are 1,000 employees in the Wistron company. The Narasapura unit at Bengaluru will be manufacturing the iPhone 12 model exclusively. The company has not announced the price of the iPhone 12 model. But the company is trying to keep the cost less than the iPhone 11 model.

Apple started getting the iPhone models manufactured in India in 2016 when the Foxconn company set up a facility in the country. There has been a massive increase in this, and Apple now has four factories in India. Currently, Apple, Samsung and other mobile companies are planning massive investments in India. It is being revealed that the companies affiliated to Apple have already started moves in this direction. Foxconn company is planning the expansion of the plant at Sriperumbudur in Tamil Nadu. The company will be investing USD 1 billion over the next three years.
