Israel-UK foreign ministers declare to strengthen cooperation and prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons

London – ‘Britain and Israel will have to work day and night to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons. Because time is running out. At this juncture, close cooperation between allies and partners are needed to thwart Iran’s ambitions, said Israeli and British Foreign Ministers. The announcement by Israel and Britain comes just hours before talks with Iran begin in Vienna.

Israeli media are predicting that the US Biden administration will accept Iran’s demands. Speaking at a cabinet meeting on Sunday, Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett said the United States would release Iran from sanctions. At the same time, Prime Minister Bennett expressed a concern that the United States would fail to limit Iran’s nuclear program. Prime Minister Bennett’s claim was widely publicized in the Israeli and international media.

Under such circumstances, Israeli Foreign Minister Yair Lapid is on a two-day visit to Britain and France. During a meeting with British Foreign Secretary Liz Truss, the Israeli Foreign Minister signed a memorandum of understanding on trade, defence and cyber security. The British media claim that this has made Israel and Britain close allies in the cyber security sector. Later, in an interview with the British daily, Lapid and Truss expressed concern about Iran’s nuclear program.

That is why Britain has decided to impose a complete ban on Hamas, which declares the destruction of Israel and threatens its security”, said Foreign Secretary Truss. Lapid and Truss also pointed to the cooperation between Israel and Britain. “If we take the right approach, freedom, democracy will conquer the evil forces. If Britain and Israel come together, the security and prosperity of the two countries will increase”, the two Foreign Ministers claimed.

Meanwhile, Israel has expressed its displeasure over US President Biden’s stance on a nuclear deal with Iran. Israel has warned that even if a nuclear agreement is reached at the meeting in Vienna, Israel will not commit to it and will attack Iran’s nuclear program. Opponents of President Joe Biden in the United States have also backed Israel’s action against Iran. US opposition leaders have said Israel does not need to wait for US permission to take military action against Iran.
