Washington/Geneva: – Leading countries of the world have raised strong objections over the report published by the World Health Organisation (WHO) regarding the Coronavirus pandemic, rampaging around the globe. Fourteen countries, including the United States, Japan and Israel, have issued a joint statement. Simultaneously, the claim made by Tedros Ghebreyesus, Director-General of WHO, that China has not given complete information to the WHO team has created a sensation.

At the beginning of the last year, after the pandemic outbreak, the leading countries of the world had demanded that a team be urgently sent to China to conduct inquiries. But China had refused the permission saying that the origin of the virus was not in China. The WHO had to accede to the proposal for an international inquiry, succumbing to the international pressure. Accordingly, a WHO team reached China in January. The report of this team was released on Tuesday.

This report says that the pandemic could have started from the seafood market in the Wuhan city of China. The report says that there is minimal possibility of the virus originating from the laboratory in Wuhan. Peter Embarek, the group leader who prepared the report, also claimed that the Coronavirus pandemic must have started spreading in Wuhan from October 2019. But the WHO report is facing criticism on the international level.

Fourteen countries, including the United States, have issued a statement objecting to the report. Australia, Japan, Israel, the United Kingdom, Canada, South Korea, Czech Republic, Denmark, Norway, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Slovenia are the other countries signing the statement. The statement makes a persistent demand that there should be an independent, unbiased, and transparent inquiry into the Coronavirus pandemic’s origin. Director-General of the WHO, Tedros Ghebreyesus, confessed that there were obstacles in the WHO team’s access to the information and said that further inquiries should be conducted.

Given the objections raised by 14 countries and the Director-General’s statements, the suspicion regarding the Chinese role in the pandemic becomes stronger.
