30 Myanmar army soldiers killed in a rebel attack

A few days ago, the army, in collaboration with armed groups, attacked villages in the region and set them on fire. It is claimed that this attack was a retaliation to this action. Exactly a year ago, the Myanmar military took over power, overthrowing the government of Aung San Suu Kyi. The Myanmar government in exile criticised that the international community did not do anything other than watch the atrocities of the Junta regime.

The Myanmar army led by its chief General Min Aung Hlaing overthrew the elected government of Suu Kyi. The Junta regime placed Suu Kyi and senior leaders of the Myanmar government under house arrest and arrested the other leaders. Inhuman actions were initiated against the democracy supporters. 1,488 protesters were killed in the actions of the Junta regime and more than 9,000 protestors have been arrested.

Even after a year, protests against the army are held in various cities and towns in Myanmar. On Tuesday, the Myanmar population declared a spontaneous bandh to protest the completion of one year of the coup. Major cities were deserted. Whereas protests against the army were being held at certain places. People’s Defence Forces (PDF), who have rebelled against the Junta regime, have continued to attack the military and its affiliated armed groups. The PDF rebels launched an attack while the soldiers and members of the armed groups were travelling in barges and motorboats. Besides, it is Myanmar, Myanmar military, Myanmar soldiers, rebel attackclaimed that at least 30 soldiers were killed in the attack. A minimum of 100 soldiers travelled in the barges and motorboats during the attack. The rebel organisations have come forward to fight against the Myanmar army and the locals are also supporting them.

Meanwhile, the United States, the United Kingdom and Canada have imposed sanctions against the judicial officials from Myanmar, supporting the Junta regime. The government leaders in exile, ‘National Unity Government’ (NUG), criticised the international community is not taking any firm steps against the Junta regime. The NUG has accused the international community of being just a spectator.
