India and Italy sign 15 agreements 

New Delhi: – A virtual meeting was held between India and Italy on Friday. Fifteen agreements pertaining to the trade, energy, science and technology, CNG, shipping and fisheries sectors were signed during this meeting. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte also had discussions regarding the Coronavirus and other bilateral issues.

Coronavirus and the world after that were mainly featured in the discussions in the fifth virtual meeting between India and Italy. The Coronavirus pandemic had spread very rapidly in Italy. Even now, there is a second wave of Coronavirus in that country. Against this background, the cooperation between India and Italy, against Coronavirus, becomes essential. Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that Coronavirus would also be recorded in history just like the second world war. Prime Minister Modi clarified that one must accept the post-Corona world and be ready for the opportunities and challenges.   

There was special stress on the supply chain during the meeting. Till now, China dominated the global supply chain. But the entire world has turned against China because of the Coronavirus pandemic. During the summit, Italy expressed interest in supply chain and investments in India. It was underlined during the meeting that there is special importance to the bilateral economic cooperation in the supply chain.   

India and Italy also showed willingness in increasing defence cooperation. At this time, both the leaders denounced terrorism and agreed to strengthen cooperation against it. Since the last few days, terrorists have raised their heads once again in Europe. Against this background, the discussions between India and Italy regarding cooperation for counter-terrorism becomes essential. Meanwhile, Italy will be organising the G-20 conference in the next year. India will be hosting the G-20 conference in the year after that. The organisation of the G-20 summit also featured in the discussions during the virtual meeting.
