The National Rifles Association is a mighty organisation, comprising of the licensed arms owners in the United States. The group has much influence over the US political circles and is believed to be a supporter of the Republican party.

In 2013, Former US President Barack Obama had signed the United Nation’s Arms Trade Treaty. According to the treaty, the countries associated with it are obligated to control the export of their arms arsenal. At the same time, the governments of such nations must not allow the violation of any arms-related global restrictions. The weapons manufacturing companies and the groups of arms licence holders had bitterly opposed the treaty. The opposition in the US has underscored that adversaries nations of the United States, such as Russia and China have not signed the deal.

President Trump stated that the agreement was challenging the sovereignty of the United States. President Trump justified the US withdrawal from the treaty saying, ‘Under my administration, we will never surrender American sovereignty to anyone. We will never allow foreign bureaucrats to trample on your Second Amendment freedom’. Human rights organisations, the United Nations and the United Kingdom have expressed regret over the US decision.

President Trump has begun pulling out from many of the agreements signed by the past US Presidents, asserting the contracts were not in the interest of the United States. Such agreements include trade, environment-related deals and also the Iran Nuclear Deal.
