Since Friday, Ukrainian President Zelensky has been on a European tour and will visit leading countries such as Italy and Germany. He met with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni on Saturday morning to discuss aid for Ukraine. Zelensky then visited the Vatican City around 4 pm. At this time, Zelensky expressed his gratitude by stating that the meeting with the Supreme of Christianity, Pope Francis, was a great honour.

Pope Francis and Ukraine’s President discussed for nearly 40 minutes. President Zelensky briefed Pope Francis, the Supreme of the Christian religion, on Ukraine’s struggle and state of affairs. Pope Francis expressed condolences to the civilians who lost their lives in the conflict and hoped all those who were caught up in the conflict should receive appropriate assistance. Pope Francis, the Supreme of the Christian religion, assured Ukraine’s President that he would pray to restore peace in Ukraine.

Pope Francis has consistently expressed his views explicitly on this matter after the Russia-Ukraine conflict began. Pope Francis expressed his profound regret over the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, saying that it only results in the deaths of innocent people. Pope Francis claimed that humanity was heading towards World War III after the Ukraine war, claiming that the conflict was fueled by the aggression of the United States and NATO, which had led to a sensation. Ukraine had expressed its displeasure with his statements. Since then, tensions seemed to brew up between the government of Ukraine and the supreme leader of Christianity, Pope Francis.

Pope Francis said he was ready to mediate in the Russia-Ukraine conflict in November last year. Later, a few days ago, Pope Francis said he was in talks with various sets involved in the conflict between Russia and Ukraine. The meeting between Pope Francis and the President of Ukraine becomes significant in light of this.
